Department of Oceanography

The Department of Oceanography was established in 2020 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. The Department brings together the courses of the undergraduate university study program Marine Science that focus on the physical, geological, chemical, and oceanographic aspects of studying the marine environment.

The Department of Oceanography is highly multidisciplinary. In addition to organizing and preparing teaching activities, its members are involved in a wide range of professional and research projects related to the sea, its natural dynamics, anthropogenic pressures, and the sustainable management of marine resources, with a particular emphasis on the Mediterranean and the Adriatic.

Alongside these activities, the members of the Department are socially engaged in the popularization of science and in presenting topics related to the sea — especially to school pupils, but also to the broader public through appearances in various local and national media outlets.
